B2L, L and C

B2L follows a three-, two- or one-year pattern similar to category A, with the experience covering the corresponding system rating; adding a further system rating needs three months of relevant experience per rating.

Category L and Category C have their own requirements in 66.A.30(a)(4) to (6). Category C is based on years of experience exercising category B1, B2 (or, for some aircraft, B1.2, B1.4 or L5) privileges as support or certifying staff in a maintenance organisation approved under rule 133B.

Recency and time limits

At least one year of the experience must be recent maintenance experience on aircraft of the category or sub-category applied for. The experience must have been gained within the 10 years before the application; experience gained in a defence environment within the preceding 15 years is acceptable.

CAR-66 also treats twelve years of relevant experience outside a civil maintenance environment, plus at least one year of recent civil experience, as equivalent to the standard requirements.

How experience is evidenced

DGCA’s procedure (APM Chapter 17, 66.B.100) lists what to attach when claiming a reduction — for example the course completion certificate and the training organisation’s approval documents, or a copy of the degree certificate — and requires a detailed, countersigned statement for non-civil experience.

Frequently asked questions

Does approved basic training shorten the experience requirement?

Yes. Under 66.A.30, completing basic aircraft maintenance training at a rule 133B approved organisation reduces the requirement — for example from five years to two years for B1.1, B1.3 and B2.

What is the minimum age?

CAR-66 66.A.15 sets a minimum age of 18 years for an AME licence applicant.
